A Quick Tutorial on How to Use this Website:
General Information for Class
- Calendar: the calendar can be followed if you have and use a google account. The google calendar is pretty seamless if you sync it on your smartphone, laptop, tablet, etc. I post homework, quiz, and test dates on google calendar.
- Lab and lab reporting: The class conducts labs which may result in lab reports. Some helpful tools are at the bottom of this page for science writing, tables, graphs.
- Reading/Text: We use an electronic textbook, go to pearsonrealize.com and students can access the text with the login/password distributed during class. There is a lot of reading and reading strategies are important to retain information so you succeed. See the bottom of the page for more help.
- Vocabulary: Quizlet.com has all the vocabulary ready to go! Find it embedded in each of the Unit Sections pages on this website, organized by topic.

- OR just download the app (most people prefer that) then request to join my class "SCPBiology"
- Content Videos: Youtube playlists are embedded in each Unit Section pages of this site, so pick and choose videos to view and study when we're covering each Unit topic.
- Extra Help: Come to room 201.
- Office hours - EVERY TUESDAY 7:30-8AM.
- Flex block - Usually EVERY Thursday, unless the week has an early Wednesday release.

- Read the question first and form an answer in your mind.
- Read ALL the options before making a choice.
- Carefully consider when one answer says "Both A and C"
- Eliminate choices through the process of elimination.
- If you're having trouble, mark the question to come back to.
- Don't leave blank answers - you have a 25% random chance!
Vocabulary Tips:
- Do a little at a time, early. 15 minutes/day for 4 days is better than 1 hour the night before a quiz!
- Try different methods on Quizlet.com - space race, flashcards, etc. or make your own methods!
- Write out and make your own paper flashcards. The simple act of writing helps your brain learn the information.
- Look at vocab terms at the start of a unit, so you can listen for them during class discussions and activities.
- Vocab for the entire YEAR is already in each unit tab at left - feel free to look at them from the start of each unit!!!

- Purdue Online Writing Lab - arguably the most important for knowing how to write, reference, etc.
- Strategies for Science Reading and Writing - a handout specific to our course and science.
- Creating Graphs: nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/ - or use excel and google docs.

- The CRAAP test - to make sure a resource is reliable, or in other words, 'wicked good'
- CRAAP test worksheet - a scoring guide if you're trying to first use the CRAAP test.

Referencing:

- Try using Google docs to build a Works Cited section, which has an 'Addon" called easybib creator.
